Let’s be real, here. If you didn’t have a super popular blog in 2007, you pretty much missed the curve.
But I guess the question I’m asking is … does it matter if this blog won’t be making me $50k a year with thousands of dedicated followers who launch me into my own tv show on Food Network?
Like, should I start it anyway?

The funny thing is that I had a blog in 2007. And then I deleted it. I had a new blog in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010… all of which I deleted. And then I started a snowboarding blog in 2011 and it actually got kinda popular! I had real followers who commented and everything.
And then I deleted it.
Why did I delete it? Why did I delete any of them?
I’ll skip the elongated story. I deleted it because it wasn’t perfect enough. It wasn’t popular enough. It wasn’t pretty enough.
Because to me, as a writer, a blog is me putting my writing out there for the world to see. That seems simple enough … except that my writing is a reflection of my soul. Of my heart. Of my insecure self-worth.
If someone doesn’t like it — or even worse they scroll past and don’t even bother reading it — it crushed me, because all those blogs ago, I thought that the amount of positive reviews and excited comments (!!!) were the same as me being good enough to be one of the cool kids on the internet.
And who didn’t want to be a cool kid on the internet?
So fast forward to 2020.
Isn’t it interesting that THE EXACT SAME insecurity that convinced me to delete all my blogs is what is convincing me not to START a blog?
DEAR MAGGIE, PLEASE STOP LISTENING TO EVERYONE ELSE'S OPINIONS AND JUST DO YOU. SERIOUSLY. EVEN IF "EVERYONE ELSE'S OPINIONS" IS REALLY JUST YOUR EGO MAKING UP EXCUSES TO KEEP YOU FROM DOING WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WANTING TO DO FOR ACTUAL DECADES.
So the answer to my question is very simple. It literally doesn’t matter if it will get super popular and launch your tv show or not. Other people’s opinions of how popular or “successful” your blog is literally don’t matter.
What matters is that you do you.
Did you ever have a blog? Or were you like me and just deleted them all because you couldn’t get to 100 followers?
Let me know down in the comments! 🤩
