I have been on a house RESET tour.
(Sort of like a rockstar tour, except a minimalism-star who is still in the planning stages… because I haven’t actually minimal-ized yet.)
After listening to Marie Kondo’s audio book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, exactly 8 times — I feel like it’s possible.
And that, tbh, is SUCH a permission.
I have lived 31 years as a creative woman with a big heart, even bigger dreams, and a busy work schedule. I have never been able to put together a well-done home, apartment, or room.
(And if we’re being 100% full disclosure, the only time I’ve ever been able to keep a clean home was back in my smoking-weed days. Because gosh it’s fun to clean when you’re high.)
But the other 90% of my life — I have just been messy, cluttery, and in search of the opposite.
My biggest Life-Changing Moment from Marie Kondo’s book was when she said:
The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.Marie Kondo, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
Because the only question you have to answer is: how do you want to live your life?
And then … you create it.
I want to live my life inside a home that is finished, clean, and everything has a place. AND it’s easy to maintain.
I want to live my life in fresh air, open windows, and simplicity.
I want to live my life so well … that even cleaning is enjoyable.
(Uh oh… we’re getting into poetry here)
And according to Marie Kondo, all of that is possible. I just have to commit to choosing what makes that my real life.
Fast forward to today. I was scrolling through Instagram and up popped an ad I’d seen a few times for Grove Collaborative.
It’s kind of irresistible.
Grove, as a brand, checks off all my boxes in my Marie-Kondo-Level life.
So I clicked.
And this is what I ordered:
And since it was my first order, I got half of it for free, which was kind of insane.
And then I discovered that they have Acorn Spice Mrs. Meyers … and now I wish I had gotten that instead of Pumpkin Spice… oh well. You live and learn.
And then my newly-found minimalism mind is like “Maggie… Maggieeee… all you did was just buy more STUFF.”
And it’s true. Buying these beautiful cleaning products does not automatically give me my fresh air — clean — easy to maintain lifestyle.
To take a real step towards that, I need to literally empty out all of the other cleaning products I’ve only used once or twice that are stuffed to the brim inside our cleaning closet … and only keep the ones that spark joy and fit inside my Marie-Kondo-Level life.
Have you ever ordered from Grove Collaborative? What are some of your go-to favorite products?
