I day dream of coffee and a different way of life. I woke up this morning after having a weird dream about trying to clean my truck at a party, and then showing an old friend my work, and there was all this dirty rain water on everything I’d cleaned. After a deep dive into dreammoods.com and harnessing my BA in Analyzing Metaphors (I mean, English/Creative Writing)... my subconscious is telling me, well, a lot. I miss parts of me I used to be before I started going to “parties” (communities I wanted to fit in to) doing tasks/methods that don’t get me anywhere but back to where I started. Weird. Because, like, that’s basically what I’ve been doing the past 3(!) years! Going to online “parties” hosted by “the major gurus” who tell me to clean my truck in the rain. Because it’s cool. 😴 So, going off the whole metaphors train, I think I’m waking up. Time for some coffee!! What are y’all drinking lately? I’m still on a black coffee kick, but am also enjoying hazelnut coffee + steamed oat milk + pumpkin pie spice. It tastes like fall! 🍂🎃🍁☕️🌰🌾🍃🍂yum

Just FYI — This is a real conversation I had with Scott:

“We get all dressed up — “

“No. We’re doing that for your birthday.”

“Ok, ok, hear me out. We put on our nicest flannels. We go to Wemple’s. Have some apple cider. Pick ourselves out a love pumpkin.”

I mean, you can’t even write a #Hallmarkmovie that romantic. 🙃

And when you bring what you think other people wan

And when you bring what you think other people want into mind as you write/create... it gets fuzzy and bland. I just think that creating starts in the mind - that’s an internal place. Then it moves to the heart - again, an internal place. The entire creative process is very (beautifully) lonely, for the most part, because really, it’s you, your body, and your imagination creating whatever it is that you are creating. And it is only when you choose to share your art... that it becomes about anyone else. And in that moment, I like to think, it’s more about the artist gifting a piece of themselves to you. But IF the artist created their art without themselves in the art............ 😴

Tbh, this is my biggest struggle lately. Where am I in my words? On my IG? On my YouTube? In my stories? In my queries?

I am so much more than I pretend to be. And so are you. ❤️❤️❤️

Have you ever woken up and realized that something

Have you ever woken up and realized that something is different about you?

Like while you slept, something changed inside of you?

That’s how I felt today. I don’t know how to explain this feeling, except that all the excuses, all the failed attempts, all the reasons why NOT … were left behind in yesterday.

I must have subconsciously forgiven myself for all the attempts that didn’t come to anything while I was dreaming. Maybe I had a dream in which I let go of all the things I tried to do and all the versions of myself I tried to be… and I woke up this morning feeling very simple.

That’s the right word: #simple

> I’m writing a book in a different genre #fallfestival #cozyromance using an actual plot, and it feels nice.
> I’ve got my first draft of my first children’s book jotted down, and it feels right.
> I’ve gone multiple weeks posting on my #minimalistlifestyleblog, and people are actually enjoying them! Which feels comfortable. Link in my bio to read them!

But this feeling of “simple” isn’t because of any of those things are happening. It’s because I finally understand that I don’t have to TRY to BE anything.

I wrote this in my journal this morning. It’s very #MarieKondo, but it’s also kind of the missing piece for me. My whole life I’ve always been able to follow a clear path that was set out by - or guided by - other people, my school, my job, etc. And I’ve been feeling frustrated why it isn’t *working* when I try to follow other people’s directions when it comes to doing my own thing.

One thing I learned on my #runawaywithme road trip is that it’s so *amazing* to choose your own destination, and then drive yourself there.

Life cannot be put in separate boxes.

What I mean is, you can’t separate the different parts of your life. Work, house, creative goals, family, friends, self...

They are all intertwined.

That’s why, I think, I’ve been on such a #minimalism kick.

I’m not talking about throwing everything away (girl, I’m still in the planning stages 😂) — I’m talking committing to choosing a life you want.

Not just a business. Not just a home.

A life.
